The King's Speech

I took advantage of my free Monday schedule to watch a DVD of the film, “The King’s Speech”. The two main actors were superb in their respective roles. This movie might win many Oscars awards. Two things struck me from this movie. The first is the perseverance of the King in trying to overcome his speech defect. I am reminded of not giving up on my own weaknesses even though I might seem not to improve or continue to fall repeatedly in them. Secondly, what truly helped the King in overcoming his speech defect was his friendship with his unorthodox therapist. I have an intuition that I will greatly be helped in my process of healing and renewal through the care and concern of friends who understand, support and guide me, rather than by distant and objective professionals.

Ephphatha!

Scriptural Reflections
Gospel of the day: Mark 7: 31-37
Healing of a deaf man

I have been deaf to God’s words to me because of the many negative self-talks I have accumulated since childhood. Jesus, OPEN my hearing and let these self-talks vanish, that I may hear Your words of love, joy, gentleness, kindness and mercy. Then will you loosen my tounge so that I may proclaim, “He has done all things well!”

The Syro-Phoenician woman’s faith

Scriptural Reflections
Gospel of the Day: Mark 7: 24 – 30
The Syro-Phoenician woman’s faith

Jesus intended to obey the Father’s will and focus on “the lost sheep of the House of Israel.” He does not reject the woman altogether, but wants to attend FIRST to God’s heirs, the Jews. But when the woman speaks, Jesus hears God’s very voice and message. The God, who rains down on the good and the bad, can be generous enough to let the extra food fall on a foreigner.

Jesus desires only to do the Father’s will. Help me Jesus to have this complete obedience and total reliance on the Father, not minding what I said or experienced before, not minding my weakness, not minding my pride, but generously fulfilling Your Heart’s desire, which is actually also the joy of my heart.

Thank you, Lord! I have been as a dog enjoying the bounty falling from your Son’s table of life and example!
